March for human rights continues
By Marylín Díaz Fernández

CAMAGUEY, CubaCuban independent journalist, Ramón Velázquez Toranzo, began a March for Dignity on December 10th, at the shrine of Our Lady of Charity, Cuba’s patron saint, demanding freedom for Cuban political prisoners, respect for human rights, and the cessation of repression against peaceful members of the opposition.

Velázquez Toranzo who is trekking with his wife, Barbara González Cruz, and his daughter, Rufina Velázquez González, has now covered over 400km on the march. The Cuban regime’s repressive forces, however, have attempted to impede the march on four occasions.

“We came to Camaguey to continue where I left off because we will not allow anyone to detain us. We are determined to complete our march because we have the firm conviction that what we are doing is for the good of all,” stated Ramón Velázquez Toranzo in an exclusive statement to the Cuban Democratic Directorate.
