By Oscar Sánchez Madán

MATANZAS, Cuba (www.cubanet.org) – Representatives of Cuban opposition groups signed a friendship treaty in which they agree to join efforts in the non-violent struggle for democratization of Cuba. The document was signed on April 1st in the town of Pedro Betancourt in Matanzas.

The agreement was drafted by Juan Francisco Sigler Amaya, member of the board of directors of the Independent Movement for an Alternative Option (IMAO) and by Néstor Rodríguez Lobaina, president of the Cuban Youth Movement for democracy.

The text expresses that both organizations commit to working to steer the nation toward a democratic system with rule of law. The document also states that the organizations will support each other in facing the regime’s repression.

Additionally, the treaty states that both groups will exchange literature, documents and experiences without hindering the autonomy of each organization.
