Family members reject military honors to late soldier
By Ahmed Rodríguez Albacia

HAVANA, November 1, 2006 – Family members of the late Carlos Manuel Rojas Cancino, a former “combatant of the Revolution” did not allow him to be given military honors upon his death.

Various members of the Association of Cuban Revolutionary Combatants arrived at his funeral, at Banes in the Holguín province, to reward him with medals and military honors. Family members rejected these, alleging that the same association had abandoned him during the illness that kept him bedridden for several years.

"This is a joke", stated his daughter, Nancy Rojas Feria, an activist from the Cuban Human Rights Foundation (CHRF) headed by Juan Carlos González Leiva.

"My father never received any help or medicine to alleviate his illness from these governmental organizations. Additionally, many of them are members of the Rapid Response Brigade and have participated in government-organized mobs and persecution against me and other members of the CHRF in Banes,” concluded Rojas Feria.
