Miami. October 12, 2007. During a meeting in Miami, the president of the Cuban Democratic Directorate, Javier de Céspedes, along with a delegation of exiled Cuban leaders, had the opportunity to offer information on the non-cooperation campaign with the dictatorship in Cuba to the President of the U.S., George W. Bush.

The meeting, which took place at 1 p.m. today, focused on interchanging ideas on the so-called ‘elections’ in Cuba set for October 28th, the precarious situation of political prisoners and of conscience, and his advocacy for democracy and respect of all human rights in the island.

“President Bush’s message was very encouraging for all who support the internal civic resistance movement in Cuba. The President expressed once again his support for a democratic and pluralistic Cuba, where free elections can take place”, expressed Javier de Céspedes on Radio República.

The delegation, which consisted of about 10 members of the exile community, included Representatives Lincoln Díaz-Balart, Mario Díaz-Balart, and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, as well as Senator Mel Martínez.

Last Wednesday, October 10th, President George W. Bush also met with Yamilé Llanes Labrada, wife of doctor and political prisoner, José Luis García Paneque, who is serving a 24-year prison sentence in Cuba. The President made public reference to his meeting with Llanes Labrada and her daughter, during the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration in the White House Rose Garden affirming, “One of the messages I have for the Cuban leader is: Free this man and free other political prisoners. He is not a threat to you. Let him be reunited with a woman who loves him dearly, and his four children.”
