Message to the people of Antilla to not cooperate with repression
By Eliécer Consuegra Rivas

“This is Eliécer Consuegra Rivas, president of the Democratic Alliance of Oriente, from the municipality of Antilla.

We, the members of the Democratic Alliance of Oriente demand that the Cuban regime cease the repressive acts that have been taking place in the last couple months in the municipalities of Moa, Holguín, Gibara, Sagua de Tánamo, Banes and Antilla against human rights actovists in this eastern area of the country. This can only result in physical violence against civil dissidents who are totally defenseless. As an indication of the consequences brought on by this oppressive wave, Jose Carlos Herrera Rodríguez, son of activist Jose Ramon Hernandez, was fired from his job in the cafeteria, “La Salud” in front of the municipal hospital.

We, the human rights activists, are being threatened before the public eye by representatives of the regime who claim we are going to poison the water, that we throw rocks, that we are terrorists, even that they will cut off our heads; they are threatening us with death.

We want to urge the people of Antilla to not allow the regime to lie to them, to not allow manipulation from local authorities, who only seek to divide the community. We are peaceful people who only want change in our country to live in a free and democratic government.

We are prepared for what lies before us, for the measures that the government wants to take against us. We are committed to suffer through what is prepared against us. If they are going to imprison us, let them imprison us, if they are going to kill us, let them kill us; but we will not back down even a millimeter. We will not renounce our ideas and principles as long as the blatant human rights violations continue. We will continue to denounce this situation to public and international opinion.

I would like to tell the people of Antilla that the municipal authorities are planning to collect signatures at the workplace in order to apply a label of “dangerousness” to us and imprison us for our political stance.

We are not obligated to act as the regime wants, and we have the inalienable and innate right to think and associate in accordance to our own interests and ideas. We are free and human rights belong to all.

We encourage all the workers, all the citizens of this municipality, to not accept this villainy and fallacy that is being prepared by authorities directed by the State Security of this region, who are the ones who rule in Cuba.

Eliécer Consuegra Rivas
