Havana, July 25, 2007. Members of the Cuban Pro Human Rights Party affiliated to the Andrei Sakharov Foundation gathered at the home of Rigoberto Martínez Castillo to commemorate the 19th anniversary of the dissident organization’s founding.

Despite strong repression to prevent the function, 24 members were able to attend. They sang the national anthem, prayed together for Cuba’s freedom and created a general summary of all the activities they have carried out to date since the organization’s founding. This took place on Street 275, No. 5227, between 160 and 152, Río Verde Neighborhood, Havana. Commemorative meetings also took place at other regional headquarters of this organization.

After concluding the event, Esther Germán Valdés, wife of René Montes de Oca Martijas, member and former political prisoner, was verbally harassed by a State Security official, threatening her with incarcerating her husband once again.

“There is no prison, no death, no torture, no offence, no official’s bribe that can bend our spirit of struggle,” said Montes de Oca. “We struggle for our love of Cuba,” he concluded on air with Radio República.
