Miami. October 1, 2008. Cuban Democratic Directorate. Young Cuban human rights activist Julián Antonio Monés Borrero was arbirarily arrested on Tuesday morning, September 30, in the city of Baracoa in Holguin province, Cuba.

 

Later, Monés Borrero was moved to the State Security operations center in the city of Guantánamo, related Cuban activist Rolando Rodríguez Lobaina of the Cuban Youth Movement for Democracy’s Center for Alternative Studies in a telephone call with the Cuban Democratic Directorate.

 

Rodríguez Lobaina also reported that authorities in Baracoa’s police headquarters refused to provide information on the circumstances of Monés Borrero or his current condition to relatives who arrived there to make inquiries.

 

Julián Antonio Monés Borrero is president of the Miguel Valdés Tamayo Cuban Human Rights Movement.

 

“The Cuban Democratic Directorate condemns the pattern of repression particularly targeting young Cuban opposition activists and demands that the family of Monés Borrero, unjustly detained by Castro regime forces, be provided complete information about his situation,” stated Janisset Rivero, the organization’s Adjunct National Secretary.
