Cuban Resistance in Santa Clara Marches for Freedom at “Ernesto 'Che' Guevara” Revolution Square Santa Clara. 24 August 2009. Cuban Democratic Directorate. Human rights activists in the city of Santa Clara carried out a peaceful march calling for freedom for all Cuban political prisoners on Sunday, August 23, 2009 as part of the Campaign in Support and Solidarity with Cuban Political Prisoners. Activists Yunieski García López, Frank Reyes López, Alcides Rivera Rodríguez, Blas Augusto Fortún Martínez, Orlando Triana González, Alexei Martínez Rojas, Diosiris Santana Pérez, Julio Culumbié Batista and Jorge Luis García Pérez “Antúnez” held the march at “Ernesto 'Che' Guevara” Revolution Square in Santa Clara. During the march, the participants carried a canvas signed by the Pedro Luis Boitel Political Prisoners Group and the Central Opposition Coalition. The canvas displayed the following slogans: “March for Freedom”, “We All Are the Resistance”, “Youth Awaken”, “Cuban: defend your rights”, “Free our Prisoners”, “Long Live Human Rights”, and “Campaign in Support and Solidarity with Cuban Political Prisoners”. Also, activists Yuniesky García López and Diosiris Santana Pérez displayed a Cuban flag, and all participants shouted slogans against the government and for democracy in Cuba. “The repressive forces moved quickly against us, [but] we didn't give them time to arrest us.
