National Civic Resistance Front Established in Cuba

Placetas, Villa Clara, Cuba. November 4, 2009. Jorge Luis “Antúnez” García Pérez. On Tuesday, November 3, a group of human rights activists met in Placetas at the home of Jorge Luis García Pérez, usually known as “Antúnez” and Yris Tamara Pérez Aguilera, located at Calle 7 del sur, #5, between Paseo Martí and 1 del este, to establish the National Civic Resistance and Civil Disobedience Front. This body will group together opposition organizations in Cuba that promote the strategy of civic resistance and civil disobedience in their struggle for freedom. The Front will be made up of representatives from the country’s 14 provinces and the municipality of the Isle of Pines. Its structure will consist of board of directors made up of democratically elected representatives from each province and an annually elected, rotating work group.

The Front’s fundamental objectives and strategies include:

1. Consolidating efforts and coordinating strategies on a national scale in order to increase massively the quality and quantity of citizen actions and expressions in a collegial manner,

2. Making the unconditional release of each and every political prisoner in Cuba the Front’s principal demand,

3. Placing the continuing activism of the National Civic Resistance and Civil Disobedience Front’s members within the framework of the Non Cooperation Campaign. The Campaign will serve as the proper frame of reference for the focusing and development of this effort. The slogan “WE ALL ARE THE RESISTANCE” will be the motto and inspiration of our Front.
