Rapid Response Brigade in Cuba

Havana, Cuba – September 7th, 2006 (Ahmed Rodríguez Albacia, Youth without Censure/ www.cubanet.org) – Rapid Response Brigades organized by State Security officials in the Holguin province carried out an act of repudiation in front of the home of human rights activist Maria Antonia Hidalgo Mir.

The incident occurred on the night of August 30th, when members of various pro-democratic organizations were at Mir’s home to participate in a vigil for the freedom of political prisoners.

The activity was interrupted by a pro-Castro mob which screamed all types of offenses at those present, among others, they threatened to evict Maria Antonia for being a traitor.

Inside the home, there were a dozen activists, among them, members of the Marta Abreu Feminine Movement (MAFM) and the Christian Liberation Movement. Four children who were also present screamed in terror.

"Despite the threats of the Rapid Response Brigades we were able to carry out the vigil, which was our objective,” concluded Noelia Pedraza Jiménez, president of MAFM.
