By Movimiento Cubano Reflexión

Oppositionist group in Villa Clara carried out a civic seminar and announced a public document of support for National Dialogue.

This past May 13, 2005 in the municipality of Camajuaní in the Province of Villa Clara the Movimiento Cubano Reflexión held the “Third Seminar on Transition”.

Sociologist Joaquín Cabeza de León, imparted a presentation entitled: “The civic values for the Cuban political culture: a goal towards transition and the post transition”, upon conclusion those present participated in a debate.

Subsequently, Alaín Ramón Gómez Ramos, a young activist of the Christian Liberation Movement remarked upon the work undertaken by the Varela Project initiative and the National Dialogue. Those present ratified the force of the Varela Project, as an efficient instrument for the democratization of the country.

In the academic activity 13 pro-democratic participants belonging to the Peaceful Rafters National Association, Freedom and Democracy, the November 30th Frank Pais Democratic Party, the independent press agency Cubanacán Press and the Cuban Reflection Movement.

As a result of the seminar the following document emerged in support of the National Dialogue.

“We the afore signed as Cuban citizens, declare that the Varela Project, despite destinal variations and regime repression, is still alive and latent in the Cubans that took it upon themselves to sign it, appealing for their moral autonomy. The legal demand is renewed, permanent, and open in the horizons of the millions that sign it, projecting themselves in the difficult actual conditions in the National Dialogue, which does not exclude and founds the plural bases of the citizen’s participation in their document, where all Cubans have had the opportunity to design the changes for the future Cuba.

Knowing of the fact politics is not a happening nor event, moreover a continuous process with multiple links within society observing the potential of the Varela Project and its National Dialogue, we promote and support the said documents due to the fact that we believe that in actual context, it is the most efficient instrument for the democratization of the country.

It is a long and difficult path, riddled with obstacles of all shorts, yet pending is our debt to democracy, justice, freedom, and reconciliation. We believe the National Dialogue is not only a right of the Cuba people, but an undeniable necessity that urgently calls upon our efforts.”
