Sister of Political Prisoner Fears for her Brother’s Life
By Marylín Díaz Fernández

My name is Marylín Díaz Fernández, sister of Carlos Luis Díaz, a political prisoner who is imprisoned in Kilo 8 prison, under a maximum severity confinement known as “the 26". At this moment, I want to testify that during his family visit on July 30th, he revealed to my sister Isabel Díaz Fernández and me that his life is in constant danger. He carried on to tell us that he is currently receiving death threats from a murderer who is in barrack 7 cell 7, where Carlos Luis was relocated during February of this year. He was taken from the cell he had occupied for more than 6 years and transferred to an area of maximum severity.

This assassin, who is currently armed, has already stabbed other prisoners, and is imprisoned for crimes such as these, has threatened my brother. He feels that his life is in danger and has solicited isolation since at any moment this person could take his life. We are extremely concerned and want to indicate that we hold the Cuban government and the State Security solely responsible for motivating common prisoners to harass political prisoners, especially within the Kilo 8 prison. We condemn its director Major Roca and the re-educator for barrack 7 known by the name of Rodney. I want it to be known that these people are responsible for my brother’s life.
