Independent Labor Unionists criticize Castro government’s refusal of hurricane aid
By Carlos Serpa Maceira

The National Independent Labor Union in Cuba, in a press release from Nueva Gerona, the municipal capital of Isle of Pines, expounded its total disagreement before Fidel Castro’s decision to refuse aid offered by the European Union and the United States in for damages caused by Hurricane Dennis. The release, read by Héctor Pachá García, representative of the Independent Labor Union Movement in Isle of Pines expressed, “The people should determine whether to accept aid or not. To our judgment, the government has once again confirmed the intolerance which has characterized it during the 46 years of dictatorship.”

Another fragment of the press release continues expressing, “Fidel Castro’s regime is more concerned with maintaining political power that with alleviating the scarcities suffered by the people, demonstrating lack of humanism and sensibility.” The National Independent Labor Union in Cuba in the Isle of Pines finally declares that Fidel Castro should immerse himself in solving the problems faced by the Cuban people, working more for their prosperity, and he should not continue with a hostile policy toward the European Union and the United States. “Hate does not edify; only love constructs.”
