October 1991:
To denounce the systematic violation of Cuban political prisoners’ human rights, Directorio members demonstrate in front of the Cuban Interests Section in Washington, D.C. A display of the names of some of those unjustly incarcerated formed a powerful backdrop as the young demonstrators peacefully chain themselves to the Embassy gate. Directorio members padlock all the other entrances to the Interests Section.

August 1991:
An informative campaign based on Article 13 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is launched. With picket signs and public speeches, members of the Directorio communicate with Cubans entering and exiting travel agencies based in South Florida offering trips to Cuba, reminding them that their rights were being violated when the Cuban government demanded travel visas for them to return to their home country.

April 1991:
The “Letter to the Conscience of Cuban Youth” is published, accompanied by a challenge to the Union of Young Communists to a debate.
Radio broadcasts to Cuba are initiated through Miami International Radio’s Alternative program.

February 1991:
Dialogue is established with the civic nonviolent opposition inside Cuba, sowing the seeds for campaigns promoting support for the Cuban dissidence movement. This type of work continues to take a leading role at the organization.
