The Cuban dictator may participate in the presidential conference of MERCOSUR. Although, there is yet to be any official confirmation two legislators from Mendoza, want him arrested if he steps on Argentine soil.

The rumors while not officially confirmed have multiplied and remained consistent with the passing hours.

Havana has not ratified nor denied rumors of the leader’s possible appearance and many in Cordoba are curious as to whether or not the Cuban dictator will arrive.

The possibility of Castro arriving with his loquacity in a presidential congregation of Mercosur, among the likes of the presidents of: Argentina, Brasil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Bolivia y Venezuela, has generated a media frenzy.

In this context, the group of legislators of the Democratic Party of Mendoza announced they would demand that the Cuban head of state, Fidel Castro, be detained once he steps on Argentine soil and tried for “crimes against humanity”.

National Deputy Omar De Marchi and Provincial Senator Carlos Aguinaga will present respective resolutions to the National Congress and Provincial Legislature, so that both houses ask the Executive to detain the Cuban president upon his arrival in Córdoba for the Mercosur conference.

De Marchi stated that his plea is consistent with the fact “freedom does not exist” in Cuba because there “are thousands of political prisoners, dead and disappeared.”

Up to now, official sources have signaled that chancellor Felipe Pérez Roque is alone in soliciting an entry visa to Argentina.

The last time Fidel Castro visited Argentina was for the presidential inauguration of Néstor Kirchner in May of 2003.

The proliferation of rumors also described a parallel activity in Córdoba to be headed by the Evo Morales, Hugo Chavez and Castro axis.
