Ex Chilean Minister, Soledad Alvear, presents book about the Ladies in White

The Center for the Opening and Development of Latin America (CADAL) organized the presentation for the book by the journalist Erika Lüters, "Las Damas de Blanco: las mujeres de los prisioneros de la primavera negra de Cuba", (The Ladies in White: the women of the prisoners from Cuba’s Black Spring) which took place on May 11th, in the headquarters of the Press Foundation in Santiago, Chile. The senator, and ex Chilean minister, Soledad Alvear participated in the event and provided commentary.

 

The book, published by CADAL and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, has a prologue written by José Miguel Vivanco, Regional Director for Human Rights Watch. Various foreign diplomats, journalists, and Christian-Democratic leaders attended the event.

 

Erika Lüters Gamboa studied in Liceo de Niñas N°1 and graduated as a journalist from the University of Chile. She writes for the international section of El Mercurio, where she began to work 20 years ago as the chronicles reporter. Along her career she has covered diverse events and has interviewed numerous international figures. In the recent years her interest has shifted toward issues relating to the defense and promotion of human rights and free expression, especially in Latin America.
