Miami, September 26, 2006. A strong turnout of community members and Cuban exile organizations attended a Cuban Democratic Directorate event this past Saturday September 23rd at Casa Larios restaurant on Flagler Street.

The breakfast and panel presentation offered further information to the community on the origin, development and importance of the “Yo No” non-cooperation campaign that was born in Cuba’s political prisons. This campaign is supported both by opposition activists on the Island and 41 organizations throughout the diaspora.

Among the speakers at the event were Reverend Martín N. Añorga, representing the Spiritual Leaders of the Cuban Exile Community, Sylvia Iriondo of Mothers Against Repression for Cuba, Ángel de Fana of Plantados until Liberty and Democracy in Cuba and Orlando Gutiérrez-Boronat of the Cuban Democratic Directorate.

In their remarks, each emphasized the importance of this campaign to the people of Cuba under current circumstances. Other subjects included the anti-government signs appearing in Cuba, the increasing numbers of neighbors who refuse to participate in acts of repudiation against opposition activists, and reports in Cuba’s official newspaper, Granma, describing the extremely poor level of cooperation shown by Cuban workers in meeting the dictatorship’s plans for production.

Finally, those present were encouraged to participate in the campaign and to share it with others as extensive information was made available for this purpose.
