October 13, 2006, Havana-Miami, Cuban Democratic Directorate – Nine members of the Cuban Youth for Democracy Movement (CYMD) participated in a video conference call with members of the Cuban Democratic Directorate. From Havana, the Cuban youth leaders expressed their points of view and denounced repression against several members of their movement. Representatives from Havana, Holguin, Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo were present on the call.

In the conversation, the young activists emphasized the importance of their project called University Autonomy, through which they seek freedom of expression and association for university students in Cuba, and the elimination of dogmatic education.

Néstor Rodríguez Lobaina, president of CYMD, stated: “Cuba is living through an important moment. The Cuban Youth for Democracy Movement has become an emblem of civic resistance and an example for all youth that is enslaved by the totalitarian regime. We need support from our brothers and sisters now more than ever.”
