Cuban resistance commemorates March 18

The Cuban resistance commemorated March 18 in various parts of the island, marking the 4th anniversary of the repressive crackdown of 2003.

 

Peaceful pro-democratic activists, of the Cuban Liberal Party gathered in the central city of Santa Clara, where they sang the Cuban national anthem and prayed for the release of Cuba’s political prisoners. Several organizations participated in the event, including the Marti Youth Coalition. This information was given to Directorio by independent journalist Alain Gomez Ramos.

 

In Camagüey, members of the Free Expression Solidarity Movement released a statement demanding unconditional freedom for all those political prisoners who are beaten and tortured cruelly in Cuba’s prisons .They called on the UN Human Rights Council to denounce such violations in Cuba. Julio Romero Muñoz, secretary of that organization made the statement public.

 

In Manzanillo, in accordance to a report given by independent journalist Tania de la Torre Montesinos, opposition members met at the home of Leonardo Cancio Santana, president of the Liberty and Democracy Movement, to hold a vigil in memory of the valiant pro-democratic activists that were imprisoned in 2003.
