Anti-government slogans and posters continue to appear throughout Cuba

Cuba. February 6, 2008. Cuban Democratic Directorate. This past January 29th, anti-government slogans and stickers appeared on various streets in the province of Sancti Spíritus. The signs, which stated the following slogans, “Do not vote for a lie,” “No to the electoral farce,” “Down with the tyranny,” “Down with the dictatorship,” and “I do want change,” were all seen one day before the electoral farce for the provincial and national delegate candidates. According to statements made on Radio República by Ana Margarita Perdigón, a Yayabo Press journalist, the acts took place on the streets of Calderón, Bayamo, and areas surrounding the Jesús Park and the Toyo neighborhood.

 

Similarly, signs with phrases like “We will not vote” and “We will not kiss the boot which steps on us” appeared on January 18th in the municipality of Arroyo Naranjo in the city of Havana. According to information given by Ernesto Colás García, President of the Foundation, Union, and Freedom Movement (Movimiento Fundación, Unión y Libertad), pamphlets explaining the benefits of bringing about change for the Cuban people were handed out to the citizens of this town.

 

According to Francisco Chaviano González, general coordinator forthe Liberal Union of the Republic of Cuba, “saying no to the dictatorship at all times, defending all people from police brutality as well as preventing the people from harming themselves, joining the opposition, and bringing about change as a defense for the people is the campaign that we have been working for and will continue to work for this year […] we invite all opposition groups to participate.”
