Activists continue to suffer under tourist apartheid
By Cuban Democratic Directorate

Villa Clara. 1 April 2008. Cuban Democratic Directorate. A group of Cuban human rights activists were denied entry to the Jagua Hotel in Ciudad del Mar in Cienfuegos province. The activists,  Jorge Luis García Pérez “Antúnez”, Guillermo Pérez Yera, Blas Fortún Martínez and Iris Pérez Aguilera of the Pedro Luis Boitel Political Prisoners Association were trying to confirm the supposed opening of Cuban hotels to Cuban citizens themselves, but were once again made victims of tourist apartheid.

According to reports by Antúnez transmitted on Radio República, the activists were allowed to enter the hotel, but once there were expelled by guards who said they had to abandon the premises.

Antúnez stated that the incident constituted “a clear and irrefutable proof that the social and political discrimination to which Cubans are subject remains in effect and that the announcement that Cubans were allowed to enter hotels is false.”
