Young Cubans Remember Chinese Students Massacred at Tiananmen Square Havana. June 4, 2008. Cuban Democratic Directorate. This morning, a group of human rights activists paid tribute to the victims of the Tiananmen Square massacre in A large deployment of State security forces attempted to impede the activity from taking place, detaining various groups of activists en route to join the ceremony starting the night before. Among those detained were former political prisoner Jorge Luis García Pérez "Antúnez" and other activists from central “Tiananmen should not go unremembered because it is a message for the future generation of young people, and the governments who will come to power in the world… The right to spaces of freedom, and the ability to claim as a right democracy in one’s country is established in all the conventions and norms of human community,” stated Rolando Rodríguez Lobaina, one of the organizers of the civic resistance action. Additionally, Rodríguez Lobaina underlined the parallels between Cuban students in opposition to the regime and the student martyrs for China’s freedom stating that: "For those Cuban youths who lend themselves to defending the absolute integrity of the human being, no matter where, it is important to convey this message… it is a duty as much because of those Chinese who died for our independence, as vecayse if the duty to carry the message of respect for human life.” Send by E-mail | Printable Version
