Christian Minister and His Family Brutally Beaten
By Juan Carlos González Leiva

Havana, Cuba. 31 May 2008.  Council of Human Rights Rapporteurs in Cuba Information Center. Paramilitary forces along with State Security officials savagely beat Christian Pastor Delmides Fidalgo López and his wife Damaris Velázquez Arévalo at 5:20 pm in prescence of their two young daughters at the entrance of the Calixto García High School in Buenaventura, Holguín.

Lisandra Domínguez Mora and José Luis Cabrera were also beaten and arrested at the scene.

According to Damaris, they were at the school demanding that activist Lisandra be reincorporated into the program from which she had been expelled on May 28 because she refused to remove her CAMBIO bracelet.

“They lacerated one of my fingers, and without any pity for Lisandra and Cabrera, they beat them with all their strength. They kicked and dragged Delmides under a horse carriage, trying to kill him. Afterward, they took them to the police unit. Our daughters screamed but they didn’t care. There were more than 90 people attacking us and shouting at us, calling us ‘worms,’ ‘counterrevolutionaries,’ and all types of insults,” stated Damaris Velázquez Arévalo.

The act of repudiation was headed by police officials and around 15 men who were ordered to beat the activists, concluded the source.

Delmides Fidalgo López is Pastor and president of the Cuban Christian Movement. He resides at José Antonio Echemendía Street #38, Buenaventura, Holguín, Cuba.
