Cuban Resistance Day- 15th Anniversary of the August 5th, 1994 Maleconazo Freedom Uprising
By Asamblea de la Resistencia

On August 5, 1994 thousands took to the streets of Havana to demand their freedom. Cubans of all ages, despite the police presence, marched chanting “long live human rights” and calling for an end to the dictatorship through various areas of the Cuban capital adjacent to the sea wall (Malecón). This action was one of the most prominent demonstrations of Cuban resistance to communism.

15 years later, the resistance is now a more pronounced and visible presence within the island. The phrase “We All Are the Resistance” is heard constantly in civic actions carried out by Cubans throughout the country.
