On 7th Anniversary of Black Spring Crackdown, Exiles Urged to Support Resistance in Cuba
By Assembly of the Resistance

Miami. March 18, 2010. Assembly of the Resistance. The Assembly of the Cuban Resistance marked the 7th Anniversary of the Black Spring crackdown at an event at the Westin Colonnade Hotel in Coral Gables, Florida. The high point of the evening was a vigil in memory of murdered Cuban prisoner of conscience Orlando Zapata Tamayo and all martyrs for Cuban freedom which drew hundreds.

During the event, the Assembly of the Cuban Resistance, founded on March 18th, 2009, looked ahead to its next year of action in support of the pro-democracy resistance in Cuba.

The Assembly issued a new call to action on the 7th anniversary of a massive crackdown on Cuba’s freedom movement by the Castro regime.

“The question is, what more can we Cubans do? What are martyrs like Orlando Zapata Tamayo and all those who have sacrificed their lives for the sake of freedom calling upon us to do? The answer is action… This struggle is ours,” reads a statement released by the Assembly on Wednesday, March 17.

The Assembly of the Cuban Resistance is calling on the exile community to support the struggle for freedom in Cuba through a five point strategy:

1. Non-cooperation of the Cuban people with the dictatorship, on every level, including a boycott of the sham elections for the Assembly of Popular Power called by the Castro regime for the end of April, 2010.

2. Support for political prisoners and their families.

3. Support for the civic resistance in Cuba.

4. Waging the struggle for international solidarity.

5. Communication with the Cuban people.
