Cuba : Antúnez declares hunger and thirst strike. Demands an end to repressive measures against him and asks for solidarity

PLACETAS , Cuba, February 10, 2014 . Assembly of the Cuban Resistance. Jorge Luis Garcia Perez " Antúnez " , National Secretary of the National Civic Resistance Front Orlando Zapata Tamayo (OZT Front) declared himself on hunger and thirst strike this February 10, 2014 claiming that the implacable police cordon that the regime has maintained around his home from January 24, 2014 prior to the CELAC summit , impeding his mobility, and that he be returned the articles of property that were removed from his home in a burglary committed by senior State Security officials and repressive forces of the Castro regime on February 5, 2014.
 
"I am announcing to the world that beginning this Monday, February 10 at 8:00am sharp, I feel compelled to undertake the supreme recourse to go on a hunger and thirst strike, in protest against the illegal, arbitrary search and ransacking, that this past February 5 underwent my home, by a joint action of senior Communist Party of Cuba functionaries and the high command of Castro's political police, " said Antúnez from Placetas.

 
Antúnez and two other activists were detained the same day February 5 prior to the raid, he was handcuffed and taken out of the city in a car of the political police. His wife Yris Pérez Aguilera was arrested too. Although released from jail hours after their arrest and raid, the home has remained surrounded for almost the past three weeks with a strong cordon of surveillance which prevents them leaving, and people who want to visit them from entering.

 
The OZT Front leader denounced that repressive agents came to his home without a search or seizure warrant and they took numerous plaques of recognitions received during his trip abroad, cards and documents related to the international and Cuban exile personalities with which he held meetings in addition to equipment and materials from his work as a human rights defender, a computer, laptop, disks videos and audios, and a burner drive. Also articles and domestic appliances that have nothing to do with his work and they are all his property.

 
Yris Tamara Pérez Aguilera called for solidarity on behalf of her husband to specific Cuban exile organizations and all who want to join in support of the demands.
