CUBA: Resistance Day marked by public protests and burning July 26th flags

Cuba, October 27, 2014. Many opposition activities throughout the island were convened and held this October 24, 2014, Day of Resistance, by organizations that are part of the Orlando Zapata Tamayo National Civic Resistance Front (OZT Front), a coalition of regional coalitions and groups of Cuban internal resistance nationwide.

Under the slogan "Neither Castro nor Maduro: freedom for Cuba and Venezuela," activists in Santa Clara, Ciego de Ávila, Holguín and Placetas, among other cities, gathered in public places to burn the July 26 flag, symbol of Castroism, and ask loudly for the freedom of Cuba and Venezuela. Activities in Cuba were made while opposition groups in Venezuela raised their voice against Maduro calling for a national protest.

"Members of various organizations of the Resistance such as the Cuban Reflection Movement, Movement Youth Awake, Eastern Democratic Alliance and the Orlando Zapata Tamayo Front burned the July 26 flag, a logo of the Castro dictatorship, for betraying the ideals of many Cubans by not fulfilling the promises made to the people with the slogan 'neither Castro nor Maduro,' " affirmed Yoel Bravo López, leader of Awaken Youth Movement in the city of Santa Clara.

On Friday October 24, 2014 numerous anti-government posters appeared in the Central Road in the center of Cuba denouncing the political and economic situation in the country: "Down with the so-called revolution," "Lower the prices of food," "parents do not have money for baby food, "according to activist Donaida Pérez Paseiro.

While in Palma Soriano, in the east of the country, appeared crossed out government posters calling for the return of the five spies convicted in US for spying, and the word DOWN on them, according to the information of Geovany Izaguirre of the OZT Front.
