Students, Activists and Legislators throughout the Americas to carry out first world Freedom for Cuba Day Eighteen activities in nine countries will be taking place this Sunday as part of the World Freedom for Cuba Day, an international effort of solidarity with the internal Cuban opposition movement with which activists, students and legislators will be calling for the liberation of Cuba from its current totalitarian government. Coordinated by the Cuban Democratic Directorate, a non-profit organization based in Miami, the first World Freedom for Cuba Day will feature activities in the Americas, with public demonstrations, conferences, exhibits, and congressional initiatives in countries such as Chile, Costa Rica, Peru, Mexico, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Argentina and the United States. In the U.S. alone, activities will be carried out in Miami, New York and California. A similar effort in Europe is planned for later this year. On Monday, May 26th, the Cuban Democratic Directorate will hold a press conference, during which participating activists will be offering a summary of events via telephone from their home countries. The press conference will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the Cuban Democratic Directorate, 10250 SW 56th Street, Suite C-203, Miami, Florida. The activities planned include public demonstrations in Mexico City and Santo Domingo, the delivery of a protest letter to the Cuban Mission at the United Nations in New York, a day-long conference in Chile, public statements by legislators in several Central American countries as well as Peru, masses and prayer services in El Salvador and California, and an important statement made by Argentine congressmen and senators during the Presidential Inauguration in Argentina.
