MIAMI, Nov. 1, 2003 -- Cesar Perez-Vivas, General Secretary of COPEI (the Christian Democratic party of Venezuela) and one of the most prominent opposition leaders in Venezuela, offered a press conference in Miami on Nov. 1, 2003, where he presented firsthand the situation in Venezuela and affirmed that the opposition would be successful in reaching the more than 2 million signatures needed to hold a national referendum on the ousting of Chavez.
During the press conference, Perez-Vivas denounced the direct intervention of Castro and the Cuban government in Venezuela’s internal affairs, qualifying the regime’s ambassador in Caracas as a “pro-Chavez political activist.”

Representatives of the Directorio, the Christian Democratic Party of Cuba and the Christian Liberation Movement were on hand in a show of support to Perez-Vivas and the Venezuelan opposition.

As a congressional representative in Venezuela’s National Assembly, Cesar Perez-Vivas is one of the foremost opposition leaders to Chavez and has been a legislator for the state of Tachira, a border state with Colombia, since 1989. He is an expert in environmental issues, having served as president of the Environmental Commission for several years, and is one of the most promising political leaders of Latin America under 50.
