MIAMI BOOK RELEASE BY POLITICAL PRISONER “ANTÚNEZ” Book honoring Pedro Luis Boitel clandestinely taken out of Castro’s prisons denounces the human rights violations in Cuba. Miami, 25 de mayo del 2005. Wednesday May 25th marked the Miami release of the book “Boitel Vive: Testimonio desde el actual presidio político cubano” in the Ramón Gutierras Library of Belen Jesuit school. Present in the event were Argentine Professor Fernando Ruiz representing the Center for the Opening and Development of Latin America (CADAL), and former Cuban political prisoner Commander Huber Matos Benitez During the presentation sister of the author Berta Antúnez Pernet was reached telephonically and directed words of appreciation towards all those present. Berta also reiterated the importance of the publication for her brother who has sacrificed so much in Castro’s prisons. “This is a denouncement for the world to know first hand the horrors that are committed within Cuba’s prisons. What my brother describes in this book is the truth,” affirmed Berta Antúnez from Paceta, Cuba. The event was organized by the Cuban Democratic Directorate, foreign representative to the Pedro Luis Boitel National Civic Resistance Movement, an organization comprised of the family members of political prisoners lead by Berta Antúnez. “This book is clear proof that Pedro Luís Boitel’s spirit of resistance is alive today in the Cuban people,” affirmed Janisset Rivero, executive Director of the Cuban Democratic Directorate.
