By Cuban Democratic Directorate

Youth leader Rolando Rodríguez Lobaina was released after being arbitrarily detained in Matanzas, Cuba. Rolando was detained on Wednesday, September 7th on the road as he traveled from Holguin to Guantanamo. He was taken to a National Revolutionary Police (NRP) station in Guantánamo, where the director threatened to beat him "savagely." His brother, former prisoner of conscience, Néstor Rodríguez Lobaina, who accompanied him when he was detained, declared, "I think this foreshadows an imminent prison sentence for Rolando Rodríguez Lobaina.” Rolando was taken to Matanzas on Sunday, September 11th, and remained in a cell at the police station at Playa in the same city.

International youth leaders mobilized around the world to try and obtain hi release. The resolve of the Rodriguez Lobaina family in demanding his liberty, and the international campaign of the International Committee of Youth for Deomcracy in Cuba carried out worldwide, helped publicize his case and support his liberation.
