POLITICAL PRISONER ANTUNEZ IS REJECTED BY AUTHORITIES IN VILLA CLARA
By Cuban Democratic Directorate

After a hunger strike he is taken to a prison in Santa Clara and then returned to Camagüey

Placetas, November 30, 2005.  The political prisoner Jorge Luís García Pérez “Antúnez” was taken to Santa Clara on Friday, November 25, after remaining in a hunger strike for 10 days and then returned to Kilo 7 Prison in Camagüey on the following day. His sister Bertha Antúnez who remained unaware of his situation for three days released the information.

During a telephone conversation with her brother that took place yesterday, she was able to confirm that the Villa Clara State Security did not allow his transfer to the prison “El Pre”, where he had been taken on Friday. Antúnez had just finished a hunger strike where the specific demands he asked had been accepted by the Kilo 7 authorities, after the launch of an international campaign along with the presence of his sister and his wife outside of the prison.

“I would like to thank all the people who showed solidarity with my brother, to all the personalities and their good will. I believe that solidarity is very important and I ask that they continue this with my brother and all political prisoners since this is the only way to respect their physical integrity,” affirmed Bertha Antúnez from Placetas.

The Cuban Democratic Directorate is thankful to all the civic and political leaders from Latin America and Europe for their support and solidarity during this prominent political prisoner’s hunger strike.
